Ice-Free Across Seikogel

3355-meter tall Seikogel on Kreuzkamm near Vent might not be as well known as neighboring Kreuzspitze, but its views are hard to beat. This exciting tour leads from Martin-Busch-Hütte in Niedertal via Seikogel to Hochjochhospiz in Rofental. Leaving Martin-Busch- Hütte, the trail gently climbs through grassy slopes in a western direction, with the terrain getting gradually rockier. The trail then contours along a wide scree ridge to just below the peak of Seikogel. From the trail it’s only a short but steep walk up to the peak from where you enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. Backtrack and head down in a northwestern direction. The trail leaves the ridge towards Hochjochferner, descends a slope and then switchbacks down steeply to Rofental. The trail crosses River Hochjochbach at approx. 2500 meters above sea level and, after a short flat stretch, drops down to another river. Cross the river and climb the last 100 meters to Hochjochhospiz which sits on the opposite slope.
