Glacier Tour To Hochstubaihütte

This high alpine tour leads over glaciated fields to Hochstubaihütte (almost 3200 above sea level) from where you enjoy awe-inspiring views of the Central Alps. From Amberger Hütte near Gries im Sulztal you first follow the flat valley trail in a southern direction and then make a right on the trail up the hill. Keep to the right at the trail fork. The route continues climbing gently along the lateral moraine until you reach Sulztalferner. Time to rope up! Continue along the right edge of the glacier to the foot of Wilde Leck and on to Wütenkarsattel northwest of Windacher Daunkogel (watch out for crevasses in this section!). Once you have crossed the saddle you descend through crumbly, sliding rock rubble to Wütenkarferner and a small lake to your right. Keep slightly to the right when crossing the glacier which you leave at its western edge where you meet the trail from Sölden via Lake Laubkarsee to Hochstubaihütte. From here it’s an easy ridge walk (100 meters climbing) to the Alpine hut on Wildkarspitze.
